Manitoba Industry, Economic Development and Mines (IEDM) plays a key role in stimulating and facilitating economic growth in Manitoba. Manitoba IEDM works collaboratively with businesses, people and communities to: increase their capacity to succeed; enhance the competencies they need to prosper; raise their profiles, locally, nationally and internationally; and foster an environment that supports sustainable economic growth.
Western Economic Diversification
A department of the Government of Canada, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) stimulates the development and diversification of Western Canada’s economy and advances the interests of the West in national economic policy.
WD is strengthening the Western Canadian economy through programs and activities that advance innovation, encourage entrepreneurship and build sustainable communities.
WD supports the Government of Canada’s Innovation Strategy in Western Canada. They do this by promoting the commercialization of technology; leveraging new funding; bringing together companies and other partners to work jointly on projects; and by supporting the development of clusters in key sectors of the Western economy.
WD’s Western Canada Business Service Network offers over 100 points of service across the West. Small- and medium-sized businesses can access information and services to help their businesses grow and succeed through our network of: Community Futures Development Corporations (CFDC), Women’s Enterprise Initiative Organizations (WEI), Canada Business Service Centres (CBSC) and Francophone Economic Development Organizations (FEDO). Smart Winnipeg Inc.
Smart Winnipeg was established to assist and advise citizens, organizations and governments in the goal of creating technically enabled communities, often referred to as “Smart Communities.” The activities of the Corporation include planning, coordinating and initiating “Smart” projects that stimulate economic development. Smart Winnipeg will also pursue project partnerships and facilitate partnerships with and for other organizations.
