Assiniboine Park Zoo
Description
Featuring over 400 species in its collection, the Assiniboine Park Zoo offers close interaction with animals from all corners of the world. With both indoor and outdoor exhibits, the Zoo specializes in cold-climate, hardy species from northern latitudes and mountain ranges. A range of exotic animals is also featured in the ever-changing animal collection.
Redevelopment over the next decade will transform the Zoo into an adventure where you can experience regional and exotic animals in the geographies and vegetation of their natural habitat. A new Asian Lion Pavilion and Steller’s Sea Eagle exhibit will open in 2009-2010 to be followed over the next few years with a new arctic exhibit area and polar bear conservation centre that will confirm Manitoba’s standing as the polar bear capital of the world. An Asian endangered species pavilion, education campus and other new facilities will completely transform this historic attraction. Conservation and public education programs will link the Assiniboine Park Zoo with the world as the Zoo resumes it’s status as a world class conservation institution attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to Winnipeg each year.
Currently open daily, year-round.
