Festival du Voyageur is just around the corner – an exciting 10-day event that celebrates the joie de vivre of the fur traders, who established the Red River Colony.

Each February, the spirit and culture of the Voyageur is present in the vibrant community that comes together to celebrate their heritage and history through this truly unique event.

This year’s festival is filled with entertainment and activities for the entire family. From taking in Fort Gibraltar’s historical characters, admiring snow sculptures created by artists from around the world or participating in Voyageur competitions – Festival du Voyageur will keep you entertained from the moment you arrive till the time you say “au revoir”.

While there, be sure to sample some delicious French-Canadian cuisine like Sugar Pie, Tourtière, Bannock and Pea Soup. Or satisfy your sweet tooth with some Maple Syrup Taffy Pops – a frozen delight made right in front of your eyes.

Of course no party is complete without some lively entertainment to take you into the wee hours of the morning. The fun keeps on going well into the night at a number of venues throughout Voyageur Park.

Donne your sash and practice your jigging as you take in the very best French-Canadian music the Prairies have to offer while sipping some Caribou -- a fortified wine that was once consumed following a long Caribou hunt in Quebec. The beverage was a mixture of both red wine and home made whiskey.

Festival du Voyageur takes place from February 12-21, 2010. So mark your calendars and don’t miss out on the ultimate kitchen party … in Winnipeg.
