Winter in Winnipeg? But it’s cold and there’s snow and ice and I won’t like it. I begged my parents to just let me stay at the hotel, heck even spending the day watching TV with my aunt Maggie and her hyper dog would be more fun.

The answer was no. They had a big day planned filled with activities that would heat me up they assured – good to get the blood flowing.

My whole family was in Winnipeg and my parents thought it would be fun to take part in Saison Voyageur – a new event that celebrates winter for 10 straight weeks. They didn’t have something like this when they were growing up and thought it would be a blast.

Being the perfect 16-year-old that I am, I bundled up – grabbed my parka, snow pants and UGG’s and headed out to the Arctic Glacier Park at The Forks.

First it was tobogganing, then snowboarding (a short break for some hot chocolate and a snack) then ice skating under the canopy then dinner at Old Spaghetti Factory followed by a girls against boys family hockey match – what a blast!

Who knew winter would be so much fun? I had the best time family bonding at Saison Voyageur … in Winnipeg.
