The 2008 year was a strong year for Winnipeg’s labour market. Employment expanded by 4,000 or 1.2%, slightly below the national average growth of 1.5%. This was coupled with Winnipeg’s strong growth from the previous year of 2.2%. Increasing job opportunities throughout Winnipeg attracted new workers into the labour force and helped push the unemployment rate down to 4.3%.
